Do you often times find yourself looking down at your sweatpants thinking, ‘I could really put some more effort into dressing better’? Well, I am here to tell you that dressing well can take no effort at all, as long as you equip your wardrobe with the following staples. These five items take the guesswork and gym attire right out of the equation.
1. Plain White-T. Invest in a good quality 100% cotton blend classic cut t-shirt. Sounds boring, but it’s actually a lifesaver because it’s easy to throw on, looks cool with jeans and sneakers, as well as tucked into trousers with a belt. Voila! Outfit complete.
2. Jeans. Thank heavens for stretch! Jeans are no longer stiff and uncomfortable but available in such a variety of fabrics there is no excuse not to find a pair that fit like a glove, and wear them often. Quality and comfort trump quantity, and putting them on instead of jogging pants gets you mega points for looking polished. Ladies have even more options with Leggings. There is no excuse not to slip on a pair of these instead of yoga pants because they’re just as comfortable but look a lot more refined.
3. Tailored Pants. A pair of trousers in a neutral shade with a classic or sporty shape should be in everyone’s closet. These are your go-to when you have a job interview, a business meeting or a wake. You’d be surprised how much a pair of pants that fit well and look professional can change your life. You’re welcome!
4. White Collared Shirt. A crisp classic white collared shirt is so versatile and can work on both casual and formal occasions. Worn unbuttoned with jeans or buttoned up and with pants or a skirt, you will wear this wardrobe staple over and over for years to come. So invest in good fit and good quality.
5. Blazer. A tailored Blazer can also be worn so many different ways. It’s cool over any style of jeans or with trousers and can even double as a jacket at both formal and informal occasions. And if you don’t believe me ask Kate Moss, who almost never leaves home without one.
