Despite the global misconception that we Canadians spend the majority of our lives shivering while buried beneath a pile of snow (admittedly, this isn’t far from the truth), it cannot be denied that Canucks are seriously HOT! Canada has produced a multitude of sizzling stars, many of whom the public assumes to be American. VC is here to set the record straight, providing a list of sexy Hollywood heavyweights that hail from the Great White North. It’s about to get a little steamy. Oh, Canada…
Ryan Reynolds
Essentially Canadian royalty, Ryan Reynolds is adored by Canucks, receiving an Eh Plus in style, personality, and overall hotness. Reynolds has an extensive resume, but his success with the film Deadpool is unparalleled with a worldwide opening $264.9 million – the biggest of 2016.
Rachel McAdams
Born in our very own London, Ontario, Rachel McAdams graduated from a four-year theatre program at York University before making her film debut in the early 2000s comedy, Hot Chick. Rising to fame with unforgettable roles such as Regina George in the cult classic, Mean Girls, and of course, her portrayal of Allie in The Notebook, McAdams quickly became a Hollywood heavyweight. Her most recent success is with the Oscar-winning film, Spotlight, which earned high praise from the Academy at the 2016 awards. Stunningly beautiful, intelligent, and incredibly talented, McAdams clearly has a long career ahead of her.
Drake
Renowned rapper Drake undoubtedly “started from the bottom.” Born Aubrey Graham in Toronto, ON, Drake worked as an actor prior to his musical success, taking on numerous small roles in films and TV shows, namely the Canadian classic, Degrassi: The Next Generation. After signing to Lil’s Wayne’s Young Money Entertainment, Drake has found enormous success in the music industry and has worked as a singer, rapper, songwriter, and producer for the past 7 years. His hard work has earned him a Grammy, three Junos, and a BET Award.
Stephen Amell
Another Toronto native, Stephen Amell was raised in Ontario before moving to the United States and establishing a successful career in television. Best known for his role portraying Oliver Queen on the CW production of Arrow, Amell has worked steadily since 2012, both on the television series and the silver screen, landing a role alongside Megan Fox in the 2016 film, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows. Not only is Amell, as Zoolander so eloquently states “really ridiculously good-looking,” he is also very passionate about cancer research and has poured a great deal of time and resources into philanthropic endeavours.
Shay Mitchell
Best known for her role on the hit TV show Pretty Little Liars, the stunning Shannon “Shay” Mitchell was born in Mississauga, Ontario, but grew up in the beautiful city of Vancouver. Although she currently resides in Los Angeles, California, Mitchell will always call Canada home. Now that PLL is wrapping up, she has moved on to the silver screen, landing a role alongside Jennifer Anniston and Julia Roberts in the film, Mother’s Day.
The Weeknd
Born in Toronto Ontario, Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, better known as The Weeknd, has found immense success with his album The Beauty Behind the Madness, a record that earned him two Grammy awards
in 2016.
Justin Bieber
So, is it too late now to say sorry? We feel incredibly bad for discounting JB for so long. The 22-year-old Stratford native has taken the world by storm, cultivating a mass following of Beliebers, who he admits are the driving force behind his immense success. Justin’s sizzling track, Where Are U Now, won Best Dance Recording at the 2016 Grammy Awards. The boyish charm that captivated a generation has now been replaced with sexy swagger and seductive gaze.
Nina Dobrev
Starring alongside Drake in Degrassi the Next Generation, Torontonian Nina Dobrev started small before hitting it big with her role as Elena Gilbert in the supernatural drama, The Vampire Diaries. Everyone’s favourite guilty pleasure, the TVD was a massive success, beginning in 2009 and continuing into early 2016.
The gorgeous actress is currently shooting a film with Vin Diesel and Samuel L. Jackson in Vancouver.
Anna Paquin
Oscar Award winning actress Anna Paquin was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1982. A successful child actress, Paquin earned a great deal of artistic praise for her roles in The Piano, Fly Away Home, A Walk on the Moon, and The Member of the Wedding. Paquin has a soft spot for fantastical projects and is probably best known for her roles in the hit HBO vampire series, True Blood, and in the X-Men franchise.
Ryan Gosling
Do we need to elaborate? Despite his humble beginnings right here in the Forest City, Gosling has made big waves in Hollywood, starring in unforgettable films such as The Notebook, The Ides of March, Drive, and The Place Beyond the Pines (to name a few). Gosling is rumoured to have repeatedly turned down the title of People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive. We don’t need a magazine cover to tell us what we already know.
Bonus Dreamboat:
Justin Trudeau
We couldn’t create this list without including our insanely handsome Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau. Not only has Trudeau inspired a shift in political discourse that has inspired Canadians to become more involved in government, he has also created a bit of a stir on the internet. Arguably the sexiest man in politics (according to the Twitterverse, anyways), Trudeau is the GQ cover model for the May 2016 issue, and is included in their list of the “most stylish men alive.”
